An Inter-Ministerial Group meeting held at the Central Cabinet Secretariat, New Delhi, granted approval for Rs 211 crores to be spent on road construction in Uttarakhand. Apart from this, there was also agreement on providing Rs 150 crores to the state. Approval will be provided by Monday.
Disclosing this, Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar said that work was underway apace on construction of roads in the disaster hit areas. On receipt of these funds, the BRO would be able to speed up its operations.
According to the Chief Secretary, norms had been relaxed on distribution of compensation amounts in disaster hit areas. Even so, for solutions where difficulties were being experienced, untied funds had been sought from the Centre for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. As such, the IMG approved Rs 100 crores as untied fund. The Union Planning Commission would approve the release of Rs 100 crores under this head.
Apart from this, the Chief Secretary disclosed that investment clearance had been obtained for the 300 MW Lakhwar Multi-Purpose Project from the Union Forest & Environment Ministry. He had also advocated the state’s case regarding the techno-economic clearance of the Bawla Nandprayag Hydro Electricity Project.
